PHYSICIAN

The physician is Sunita Shailam, M.D.  She grew up in upstate New York, where she studied at Union College and then Albany Medical College.  After medical school she completed the 3 year Family Medicine residency training in Atlanta at Emory University.   Sunita has 15 years experience as a physician.  

Sunita treats nearly all health conditions, and has a special interest in preventive/proactive healthcare, health education, and optimism.  As a primary care physician, she works exclusively at Sun Health Medical Clinic, Inc.  She is a Board-Certified Diplomat of the American Board of Family Medicine and an Expert Reviewer for the Medical Board of California.

Sunita's interests outside of medicine are as varied as her interests within medicine.  A few of her favorites are nature photography, listening to and performing stand-up comedy, and dancing.

MEDICAL ASSISTANT + CLINIC MANAGER

The Clinic Manager and certified Medical Assistant is Jorge Perez.  He trained at United Education Institute (UEI), where he learned about medicine and the techniques of obtaining vital signs, administering immunizations, performing certain tests, and venipuncture (blood draw).  Jorge scored a perfect 40 out of 40 successful blood draws during his training at UEI and currently uses the smallest "butterfly" needles to draw blood to minimize any discomfort.  Jorge has 8 years experience as a medical professional.

Jorge is the Employee of the Month + has won a free monthly pass on the Metropolitan Transit System.  Congratulations!  Also, much of the accolades for the doctor's top patient satisfaction is because of his work.

Jorge has a special interest and talent in fitness.  He is also an independent personal trainer and has undergone a fitness program that he tailored for himself.  In the course of a year he was able to bring his resting heart rate from 87 down to 43 (making his heart that much more efficient so it has to pump less times per minute to circulate his blood).  Jorge is also a boxing fan, proud father and husband, and is currently regularly playing soccer.  He recently claimed he jump-roped 40 minutes straight.

INDEPENDENT PRACTICE ASSOCIATION (IPA)

We are associated with Mercy Physicians Medical Group (MPMG), an independent practice association (3rd party managing healthcare between patients and health insurance).  The California Office of the Patient Advocate ranks MPMG the top scoring IPA in San Diego County for both patient satisfaction and quality measures.  We are grateful to them for their outstanding service over the years in advocating for and helping our patients.
